Huaqing Palace also referred as Huaqing Hot Spring, is a complex of hot springs located at the northern foot of Lishan Mountain in Lintong District, Xian, lying Lishan Mountain in the south and facing Weihe River in the north. Huaqing Hot Spring is famous for its gurgling hot spring, breathtaking scenic views and mild weather, which makes itself the recreational palace of emperors of Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui and Tang dynasties. It was rebuilt in 723 by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty for his consort named Yang Guifei and the name "Huaqing Palace" is given. According to the record, Huaqing Palace enjoys the 6000-year history of hot-spring utilization and 3000-year history of the imperial architectural building. The site is perched 30 kilometers east of Xian city and neighbors the renowned Terracotta Warriors, the Eighth World Wonder. It was listed into 5A national tourist scenic area on May 8 in 2007.
The Hot Spring Scenic Area hosts 4 hot springs originated from Shiquan Cave, which endows crystal clear water and amazing steam surrounded. Standing in the water, you can hear the gurgling water following under your feet. The average temperature of the spring is roughly 43 degrees centigrade. The water is also home to many mineral substances that good for health, such as lime, sodium carbonate, silica, alum and sulfur and the like. Water in the Huaqing Hot Spring is not only good for bathing but also has a special treatment to arthritis and skin disease. The bathing area occupies roughly 3000 square kilometers, in which 100-plus bathing rooms are equipped and could host 400 persons for bathing proximately.
Walk into the gate of Huaqing Palace and the first scene coming to your sight is the two towering cedars and two imperial architectures standing on both sides symmetrically. Move forward, you will see the new bathing pool. Turn right and you will see the Nine-Dragon Lake. The surface of the lake is just as tranquil as mirrors, on which the reflection of the willows and pavilions surrounded are cast. On the eastern bank of the lake lies the Hall Palace, and the northern bank, Feishuang Hall. Then you would be greeted by Xu Pavillion, Nine Dragon Bridge, Sunset Pavillion and Guifei Pool architecture complex.
